Lindsey’s Story

Community and Rehab Care - Community Living / July 8, 2024

A new client in Tukwila, WA, Lindsey Norwood, moved into her first-ever brand new home! She is the first client to move into this collection of beautiful new homes funded through collective partnerships and specifically designed to be an attractive and affordable mixed-use model.

As Lindsey has the honor of being the first resident, she had the opportunity to give a speech about her story and the joy, pride, and excitement she feels about living in her first new home.

Present at this ceremony were three mayors, several state representatives, city and county officials, and other prominent members of the community who played a role in bringing this project to fruition. Even with such dignitaries present, Lindsey herself was awarded the top honor of cutting the ribbon. She was so proud and overjoyed at this tremendous opportunity. Seeing the immense joy on Lindsey’s face was priceless and reinforced the mission of ResCare: helping people live their best lives.

Through a multi-year long process in partnership with Parkview Services, a local non-profit providing subsidized housing to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), the Riverton Project has come to fruition with the first resident moving in. This was successful through the collaboration of the state, county, builders, funders, housing providers, and the Homestead Land Trust. ResCare worked closely with Parkview to help establish the need for the grant, consult on ADA needs and materials to include, and support legislation for affordable housing grants for those with I/DD.

As a result of the partnership, ResCare was awarded the only two homes in the project specifically designed to serve people with I/DD. This amazing opportunity will allow eight individuals to be safely supported in these beautiful new homes that are 100% green-build certified, solar powered, and equipped with smart home capabilities. Congratulations to Lindsey and the seven other lucky individuals who will be able to move in shortly!
