The Way We Lead / November 7, 2024
As we observe National Hospice & Palliative Care Month in November, we recognize CompassionCare Hospice Volunteer Coordinator Joseph Galata, who has been Working Smart and Doing Good in Reno, NV.
A CompassionCare patient with a lifelong passion for painting animals had one final wish: to have his artwork seen by the public. Though he had spent years as an amateur artist, he had never experienced the joy of a public exhibition.
Determined to honor his request, Joseph and seven dedicated volunteers organized a special art event on April 21, 2024. In total, the exhibition involved 12 hospice employees, 16 public clients, and 186 attendees. The event was a celebration of the patient’s artistic journey, fulfilling his dream in his final days.
The success of the exhibition extended beyond the initial event, as a local hotel hosted additional receptions in May and June, which allowed more people to admire the art. In recognition of his artistic legacy, an art scholarship was also established in the patient’s name, ensuring his passion for creativity can inspire future generations. The series of events came to a close on June 20, leaving a lasting impact on the community and providing the patient with the public acknowledgement he had dreamed of.
Joseph, thank you for using your positive Attitude to see the possibilities in this individual’s lifelong dream. Through coordinating this event, you ensured that not only your patient but also hundreds in the community could be impacted and live their best lives.
WORK SMART. DO GOOD.
