Pate Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist Courtney Martin, Speech Pathologist Melissa Lefan, and Physical Therapists Heather Medford and Kristina Vo have been Working Smart and Doing Good in Fort Worth, TX.
Courtney, Melissa, Heather, and Kristina assisted a patient named Juan at the Savanna Oaks Ranch treatment center following a stroke in January 2024. At the start of his journey, Juan struggled to talk and had extreme facial drooping. He could no longer drive and experienced a lack of mobility that led him to feel overwhelmed by the fear of never fully recovering or regaining independence.
With the dedicated work of his rehab team, Juan regained motivation and began to see progress. When he left Pate, he was able to drive away on his own. Juan says, “I’m proud to share how far I’ve come. I have returned to work full-time with no limitations. I can walk and drive on my own without any assistance and can speak in clear sentences that allow me to connect with others. My face has regained its normal shape, and I have lost over 120 pounds. I’m enjoying life with my family and friends.”
Thank you, Courtney, Melissa, Heather, and Kristina, for seeing the possibilities and maintaining a positive Attitude. You helped Juan through challenges, celebrated his victories, and reminded him to have persistence and patience throughout his recovery. Your work ensures that Juan and others like him can live their best lives.
